Information regarding fines on buses
Provisions of Law Ν.4313/2014 (GG 261 Α) & enforcement of Α 45788 / 3552 / 2014 J.M. D. GG 2283/2014
- Passengers must pay the prescribed fare (validate a pre-printed ticket or purchase one from the ticket vending machine) upon boarding and retain the ticket throughout the trip and present it for inspection every time it is requested by a Fare Inspector.
- Passengers traveling without a valid ticket are subject to a fine equal to 60 times the price of the standard or reduced fare (if entitled). The same multiplier applies to those traveling with a reduced fare ticket but failing to present the required supporting documentation.
- The fine is issued through a formal violation record by authorized fare inspectors of THETA, lawfully performing the inspection.
- Passengers -offenders must present their personal details/identification to the fare inspector for processing the fine. If they refuse, police assistance may be requested, as per Law 4313/2014 (GG 261A).
- If the fine is not paid immediately by the fare inspector or within 60 calendar days starting from the day following the violation, it increases fivefold and is referred to the tax office (DOY) for collection as public revenue under the Public Revenue Collection Code (Law 356/194).
